BROADCAST AND THE FOCUS GROUP
BROADCAST AND THE FOCUS GROUP INVESTIGATE WITCH CULTS OF THE RADIO AGE

Broadcast’s joint project with the Focus Group (a.k.a. Julian House) is a simultaneously old-fashioned and otherworldly trip through mostly short, experimental pieces that make for a successful alchemy. Echoey vocals, distortion, and whirling instrumenation twist and knot together on the “The Be Colony” and “I See, So I See So” brings you to the seashore with Trish Keenen quaintly singing over a classical-inspired keyboard. “Ritual / Looking In” climbs over a steady beat before transitioning into what sounds like a crash into a grandfather clock, followed by snippets of birds. The titles are frequently tongue-in-cheek and the songs are often mischevious and mercurial vignettes that wade through watery, acid-like textures that together, become a unique treat to the ear.
